Park an A-Spec next to a standard MDX and there is simply no comparison. The A-Spec looks lower, wider, and substantially more athletic without becoming overdone.

Those A-Spec wheels are some of our favorite factory wheels Acura has ever put on an MDX. The darker gray finish ties directly into the black grille, black window trim, dark exterior details, black mirrors, and Platinum White Pearl paint, giving the entire vehicle a clean factory-blackout appearance. They completely fill the wheel wells and give this new-generation MDX the stance it deserves.

The Platinum White Pearl over Ebony Black combination is absolutely killer. The white paint shows off every line of the new body while creating incredible contrast against all of the dark A-Spec trim. Inside, the black sport interior continues the theme with premium materials, contrast details, aluminum accents, and the upscale look that makes this generation MDX feel substantially more expensive than the older body style.

Under the hood is Acura's coveted 3.5-liter V6, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. We love this drivetrain because it delivers smooth, naturally aspirated power without needing to rely on a small turbocharged engine. It is responsive around town, refined on the freeway, and has plenty of power for passing, hauling passengers, and everyday family use.

Then there is Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, one of the best parts of the MDX. SH-AWD does more than simply add traction when roads get slippery. The system can actively manage torque between the wheels to improve stability and help the vehicle rotate through corners, giving you additional confidence in rain, winter weather, mountain passes, and spirited driving. For a three-row SUV this size, the MDX feels surprisingly planted and agile.

The new-generation MDX interior is another huge step forward. You get a digital instrument display, large center infotainment system, navigation, premium aluminum and piano-black trim, leather-trimmed surfaces, power seating, memory functions, multiple USB and 12-volt outlets, tri-zone climate control, and a cockpit that feels dramatically more modern than the previous generation.

The premium 16-speaker audio system is another major upgrade. If you're an audiophile, you'll appreciate the additional power, deeper controlled bass, cleaner highs, crisp vocals, and better separation throughout the cabin. Even if you mostly listen to podcasts or audiobooks, voices come through noticeably more crisp, clear, and natural. With three rows of seating, having a properly engineered stereo that fills the entire cabin makes a huge difference.

Adaptive Cruise Control is another absolute must-have. Instead of simply holding one speed, the system monitors traffic ahead and adjusts to help maintain your selected following distance. Add Traffic Jam Assist, and heavy freeway traffic becomes dramatically less tiring because the vehicle can help manage the constant accelerating, braking, and lane positioning that wears drivers out. Once you've lived with good adaptive cruise, standard cruise control feels ancient.

The safety technology is extensive and includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Blind Spot Information System, Rear Cross-Traffic Monitor, Driver Attention Monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and a factory backup camera with washer. These are features you actually appreciate every day, especially in a larger three-row SUV.

The A-Spec interior seating is another reason we love this trim. The seats have a much sportier look than the standard MDX, with upgraded materials, additional bolstering, and performance-inspired detailing while still delivering the comfort you expect from an Acura. Add heated and ventilated front seats, and this becomes an excellent year-round daily driver.

The huge panoramic roof completely changes the cabin for both front and rear passengers. It floods the interior with natural light during the day and gives the second and third rows a much more open, less claustrophobic feel. At night, passengers get a view of the sky instead of staring at a dark headliner, and it makes the whole interior feel dramatically more premium.
